Pediatric Dentistry

Our whole team is focused on gentle care, particularly for our youngest patients. Our dental care for children includes preventive maintenance, tooth-colored fillings, and dental sealants to protect young teeth from cavities.

First Visit

The American Dental Association recommends that children receive their first dental visit within six months of eruption of the first tooth and no later than 12 months of age.

We feel it is important for your child to become comfortable with our office environment and staff. We explain and demonstrate our equipment and tools in a fun and imaginative way. It is important that this first visit be a positive experience. If your child is apprehensive, the first visit may consist of a ride in our chair and watching the examination of the mouth of a stuffed animal. When your child is ready, we perform a thorough oral examination, x-rays if required, a cleaning, and fluoride treatment.

Sealants

Dental sealants are made of a resin material that acts as a barrier to protect the teeth against decay. Sealants are applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth where decay occurs most often. The threat of decay in the back teeth begins early in life, so children and teenagers are obvious candidates for this procedure.

Mouthguard/Sports Appliance

Dr. Pivor is happy to examine and prescribe a proper-fitting mouthguard for children and teens who are involved in sporting activities. A well-fitted mouthguard protects the mouth against injury during vigorous physical activity. A mouthguard created specifically for the patient’s own mouth provides fit and protection superior to an over-the counter product.

Thank you for treating Hannah so kindly! It’s almost a pleasure having cavities!!
